The Tennessee Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing will hold its 2021 workshop with a focus on spirituals and feature lectures by Randye Jones and performance and masterclasses by Ollie Watts Davis and Casey Robards. Live events will be held at the Martin Center for the Arts, East Tennessee State University.

Jones’ lectures cover a discussion of the spiritual based on how they were grouped in her book, So You Want to Sing Spirituals, and using video examples performed by master interpreters of the concert spiritual, as well as a presentation on interpretation of concert spirituals, specifically use of dialect and improvisation.
